I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago when I was at the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotel. It’s the first time I had been there since it changed over from the Hard Rock hotel.
I didn’t find anything I was interested in eating inside the casino, so I went outside and looked around. Across the street (Paradise Rd.) was the Big Chicken. I’d heard about the place and decided to give it a try. It is, I imagine, partially owned by former NBA basketball star Shaquille O’Neal. Known as Shaq, his photo is all over the inside of Big Chicken. I would call this place fast food chicken, but there’s no drive thru. It is part of a retail strip mall, but there are plenty of seats inside. There is also a bar, which really surprised me, so it’s not your typical chicken place. But even with the bar, it’s family friendly. There were families with several little kids eating inside.
I have to say the chicken was huge; it was sticking out the sides of the bun, and there was lots of crispy breading, along with quality chicken. It wasn’t the cheap kind, like you see at most fast food places; A sort of minced chicken made from left over meat after being processed for other uses, then pressed together and formed into patties, breaded, cooked and shipped frozen to fast food restaurants. This was real chicken.
I got the Shaq Attack, and it was spicy hot, but it didn’t seem like it was cayenne pepper. It had more of a black pepper taste. There were other things on the sandwich too. There was a sauce, pepper jack cheese, and some jalapeño coleslaw. It doesn’t come in a wrapper. It is standing up like large fries in a cardboard container at McDonald’s, only the container is much bigger.
I ordered the combo, so I got fries with the sandwich. You get your choice of three or for different sides, but I went with fries to be safe. Their French fries were kind of strange. They appeared in the shape of a ribbon. They were okay, but the main draw I think is the chicken.
I’d like to go back again sometime, but I think there’s only one right now in Las Vegas. I heard they’re planning on the second one out in Summerlin. This one is located on Paradise Rd. and Harmon. It is in the back, and because there is a business on the corner, you might not be able to see it from the street. I’ll leave a link here at the bottom of this article for more information. If you like chicken sandwiches, you should try this place. And if you like spicy chicken sandwiches, give the Shaq Attack a try. It was both tasty and entertaining to eat.
